Rubengera is one of the key sectors in Karongi, positioned close to Lake Kivu and surrounded by the region’s characteristic rolling hills and valleys. is a rural area in Rwanda known for its scenic beauty and predominantly agricultural lifestyle, characteristic of many regions in the country. Located in the Western Province, Rusasa is part of a densely populated rural community where agriculture, particularly subsistence farming, serves as the backbone of daily life and local economy. Like much of rural Rwanda, Rusasa faces significant challenges related to poverty, with limited access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and clean water. Poverty rates are high, and many households rely on small plots of land to grow staple crops like maize, beans, and bananas. Medical access in Rusasa is limited; although Rwanda has made significant strides in healthcare accessibility in recent years, rural areas like Rusasa still have few medical facilities, and common health issues such as malaria, respiratory infections, and malnutrition remain prevalent. Demographically, the population in Rusasa is young, with a high proportion of children and youth, reflecting Rwanda’s overall demographic trend. Economic opportunities are limited, with wealth distribution skewed toward urban centers, leading many young people to migrate to cities in search of better prospects.
